DIAGNOSIS
The dentist will first conduct a thorough examination of the tooth, often including X-rays, to determine the extent of the damage or infection.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is administered to numb the affected tooth and the surrounding area, ensuring that you don't feel pain during the procedure.
Isolation
The dentist places a rubber dam around the tooth to keep it dry and free from saliva during the procedure.
Access Opening
The dentist creates a small access hole in the crown (top) of the tooth, allowing access to the pulp chamber and root canals.
Cleaning and Shaping:
Special instruments are used to remove the infected or damaged pulp tissue from the pulp chamber and the root canals. The canals are cleaned and shaped to prepare them for filling.
Irrigation
The canals are irrigated with a disinfectant solution to eliminate any remaining bacteria.
Filling
After the canals are cleaned and shaped, they are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha to seal them and prevent reinfection. The access opening is also sealed with a temporary or permanent filling.
Restoration
In many cases, a crown is placed on the tooth to restore its strength and functionality. This is especially common for posterior teeth, as they are subjected to more chewing forces.
Follow-Up
You may need to schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that the tooth is healing properly and to monitor the success of the treatment.
Pain Management
After the procedure, you might experience some mild discomfort or pain, which can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Your dentist will provide instructions on post-treatment care.
We recommend regular check-up and cleaning appointments every six months. However, the frequency may vary based on your specific oral health needs. Your dentist will provide personalized recommendations during your visit.
A typical dental check-up includes an examination of your teeth and gums, X-rays if necessary, and a professional cleaning. Your dentist will also check for signs of oral health issues and provide guidance on maintaining good oral hygiene.
Common signs of gum disease include bleeding gums, bad breath, and gum recession. Gum disease can be treated through various methods, including deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) and, in advanced cases, surgical procedures. Early detection and treatment are crucial.
Tooth sensitivity can be caused by various factors, such as tooth decay or gum recession. Treatment options include desensitizing toothpaste, dental sealants, or addressing the underlying issue through restorative procedures like fillings or crowns.
Professional teeth whitening performed by a dentist is both safe and effective. It can dramatically improve the color of your teeth. We offer in-office and at-home whitening options to suit your preferences.
